Everything that is wrong with my Day Sailer Sailboat

What’s that old saying about the two happiest days of a man’s life?

There’s a lot more issues than met the eye when I first inspected it, at night, in sub-freezing temps, and under a tarp. Here is a list:

The hull paint looks more like it was done with house paint – it is semi-transparent, very bumpy, too thin in some places and drippy in others.

The gel coat is covered with spider cracks. Appears to be fixable, but not trivial. Hoping this does not indicate rotted out balsa core. Ha, I only learned about Balsa Cores after learning this was a Spindrift. The O’Day’s don’t have a balsa core.

This swivel cam cleat is good, but the other side is sheared off.

A broken swivel cam cleat, surrounded by horrendous epoxy patching.

Teak (or Mohagany) trim that is full of holes and needs a full refinish.

Lots of shoddy epoxy patch work in the fiberglass. Sadly it will be pretty impossible to smooth it and bring back the original texture.
